FOREWORD

Information Technology is touching every activity in our life. Recognizing its importance, Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti introduced computer education in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya since early 1990s. The Samiti got a set of computer books, “Learn and Practice Computer” in seven volumes, prepared and printed for use of the students of JNVs. To keep pace with rapid changes in Information Technology and in order to acquaint students of JNVs with the latest developments in ICT, the curriculum for IT education has been thoroughly revised with the help of experts in the field. Now a new set of books with title, “March Ahead with ICT” has been prepared with help of experts, especially from Micro soft and INTEL. The major emphasis in learning ICT has been laid on learning by doing and hence reference handbook, “Skills for Success” of INTEL has been incorporated for use by the students and teachers of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas.

I am sure, the new titles of ICT books will be found to be useful by all the teachers and the students of JNVs. The success of these books will lie in their frequent use by all concerned.

I wish all the students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas success in their life with, “March Ahead with ICT”.

ICT IMPLEMENTATION
Information and communication technology implementation in education has now become an inseparable element in the present day education system. Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti has done a great work providing computer training to its entire staff under project “SHIKSHA”. All the regular staffs (esp. teachers) have been trained and now almost all the teachers use ICT in their class room teaching learning process.

Vidyalaya is having well equipped computer Lab with V-Sat (Internet) connection and LCD projectors. The physics, Chemistry, Bio Lab and resource room all are having computers to be used in teaching learning process.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
• To equip the teacher with modern technologies.
• To pace with the demand of time.
• To introduce innovative practices in education.
• To give space for experimentation in teaching learning.
• To use the available resources in forms of computer, internet and other software.
• To include ICT as audio, visual aids.
• To expose the children to the vast work of knowledge.
• To supplement the teachers in teaching learning process.
• To make the class room teaching more absorbing.
HOW TO IMPLEMENT ICT IN EDUCATION
In order to implement ICT in education genuinely the following steps should be taken

1. All the teachers should be given training for MS Office, internet surfing , downloading of material, grading of material as per the requirement of the students etc. so that they will be able to use ITC in education . All the teachers have been trained (except the part time) contract and newly recruited but ironically enough most of them are not using ICT in education.
2. The list of teachers using ICT / Computer in classroom teaching should be prepared by the Principals / VPs / Academic Incharges with the e – contents prepared and used by them in a particular session.
3. The teachers who have given maximum number of classes using ICT / Computers Power Point Presentation should be appreciated or given mementos / certificate by the Regional Office / Deputy Commissioner for the motivation to him / her and others.
4. In an academic session there should be two to three ‘e-contents development’ week when all the subject teachers will prepare or develop e-content on the basis of units & sub units in their respective subjects under the guidance of the Principal, Vice Principal, Academic Incharge with PGT Computer Science.
5. The Academic Incharge or e-content development Incharge with the help of PGT Computer will provide requisite skills, or training to all the subject teachers to prepare e- contents or power point presentation for their use.
6. Regional office may also organize e-content development – week / workshop where the experienced and up dated teachers are to be called for the preparation of e-content for different classes and subjects. Here first of all the subject teachers from all the schools of the region will give the difficult topics for which they want the e-content or soft content. After scrutiny and analysis of these topics; the expert subject teachers will prepare special modules or content material for these topics which are to be developed in power point presentation or e-content. The dissemination of the prepared material is to be ensured by the Regional Office or the e-contents development Incharge or Coordinator.
7. The Principals / Vice Principals / Academic Incharge should get the instruction from the Regional Office that all the subject teachers must use ICT in their class room transaction, at least one or twice in a week to each class / section. It is possible as we have computers in Computer Lab, Physics, Chemistry and Bio Lab and in the Resource Room or Smart Lab. Initially a time table for the same should be developed and to be monitored by the Principal whether the teachers are giving classes using ICT or not.
8. Testing and evaluation work can also be done through computer as the teachers will develop Multiple Choice Question, Comprehensive questions and give on line test or test through local net work to students and finally displaying the answer and the result immediately on screen to the satisfaction of the students with explanation.

There can be many other ways by using which ICT can effectively be used in education.

(ICT & Computer Lab.)
The following activities will be taken up in the  Vidyalaya Computer Lab---

1. Subject teachers will be accommodated to take at least two classes in a week in the computer lab.
2. They will be extended the support in making E Contents so that they can make use of E Contents during their class in the computer room.
3. An ICT record registers to be maintained.
4. Computer quiz will be organized for Sr. and Jr. Students.
5. Computer painting competition will be organized for Jr. Classes in the computer lab.
6. Computer Literacy Programme will be organized in summer vacations. 40 students of neighbouring school will be trained under CLP Programme.
7. Visit of the neighbouring school students in the computer lab.
